Scientic and technical goals:
- develop an observing system capable of studying the interannual
variability in the SACUS region, with a particular focus on the wave
responses and advection of water masses from the equatorial region
(GEOMAR, IOW,
INIP, NatMIRC,
UniNamibia)
- identify physical processes relevant during the onset, evolution
and mature phase of coastal upwelling, including submesoscale and
mesoscale processes, filamentation and diapycnal mixing (ZMAW)
in cooperation with the GENUS
project
- synthesize observations and high-resolution simulations (GEOMAR,
UCT,
IOW,
ZMAW, INIP,
NatMIRC, UniNamibia)
- improve climate simulations and predictions using coupled ocean-atmosphere
general circulation models (GEOMAR
and
UCT)
